10 Things...

Here are ten things you probably don't need to know about me:

1. I tend to cut my toe nails too short. Its so annoying.

2. I think I have the ability to predict the future though I am still honing that skill. Proof: I'm first in my NCAA bracket!

3. I believe I will only be a parent to girls. No boys. Its just a weird feeling I have.

4. I forgot that the easiest way to get pictures from your phone to your computer is through a USB cord. I've been working on Emi's baby book and it was taking so long because I was emailing all the pictures to myself. Back to basics, Dawn!

5. I think I will start posting more pics to my blog again now that I remembered the easy way to get pictures onto my computer.

6. I hate milk. So does Emi. Hate it.

7. If you are facing the bed, I only feel comfortable sleeping on the left side. I've tried the right, just don't like it. Luckily my husband doesn't mind the right side.

8. If I could do it all over again I would not be an attorney. I've never met a female attorney who said they'd still be an attorney if they could choose again.

9. I judge people who get manicures on a regular basis. I believe they are poor managers of money and too consumed with themselves. That's terrible, but its true. I totally do.

10. I have no problem with people who get pedicures on a regular basis. No judgments here.

Happy Birthday, Sam!

Looks who turned 1 already!

Emi's First Easter Egg Hunt!

We headed out to the Ankeny Jaycee's Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday. Admittedly, I was pretty pumped to bring Emi to this egg hunt because I remember going to this egg hunt as a kid!

It was pretty cold out, but we still had a good time! I was pretty impressed with the amount of eggs that they had available for all the kids. I bet no kid left with less than ten eggs.

Emi wanted nothing to do with the Bunny!

She loved to shake the eggs!

We saw lots of friends there!

I was mostly happy that Emi wore her tennis shoes for the first time. We bought them last weekend and she loved them- as long as they were not on her feet! She will finally let us put them on her feet!

Just Another Day at the Office

I walked into a mediation and spent the next three hours trying to decide if I liked this hair style:

I think I do. It has that certain "don't mess with me" kind of look.

As the mediation progressed I learned that the child who we were dealing with was conceived in a fast food restaurant bathroom.

Apparently trading pot for a tattoo is a common practice. I mean seriously, do you really want the person giving you a tattoo (on your neck) to be stoned while doing it?!

A later conversation left me wondering "How do you have sex with a dog?"

Just another day at the office...

The First Year!

It is so fun to see how much Emi changed through the last year. I think the biggest changes were months 3, 7 and 11! (Month 12 looks like a big change but Emi was more like 13 months!!)

I can't help but to laugh when I see these pictures because all I can think about are the crazy dances and singing Tommy and I did to make her smile in the picture! Lalalalala Bamba!

10 Things...

Here are some of my ten favorite moments (random order):

1. Having Emi sit cozy on my lap for a few seconds.

2. Thinking there is nothing to eat in the house and end up making an easy but yummy dinner without having to run to the store. Tonight- BLTs. Except with no Ts.

3. Getting an email from a client who I know is going through a bad time that says "You are making this process a lot less difficult for me."

4. Crawling into a newly made bed with fresh bed sheets!

5. Finding something I had prepared to buy full priced on sale!

6. Thoughts of pulling out my spring/summer purse in a few weeks. Seriously, I have the best spring purse and this will be the forth year I use it?!

7. Planning a weekend getaway! (Mom, can we join you at the lake next weekend?)

8. Having a good laugh!

9. Getting a huge from my nephew and having him look at Emi and say "I love you so much, Emi!"

10. Waking up in the morning to find my daughter curled up in to bed next to me because Tommy snuck her into bed in the middle of the night (not because she was crying or unhappy but just because he missed her!)

Congratulations!

I attended a party recently for a co-worker of mine who is retiring from the practice of law to become a Judge. I was reading through the notes that were left to him by colleagues, clients and other professionals all mostly saying the same thing. "Congratulations or achieving your lifelong dream, Judge Block!"

It's not that I didn't know that Craig Judge Block wanted to become a Judge. We had many of conversations regarding his three previous bids which were cut short because of "women and black people" (other's words, not mine!). What I didn't know was that this was his lifelong dream.

It got me thinking- what's my lifelong dream? I'm not just talking the general dream to have a decent job and amazing family. But what would I have to do to get you all to send me cards congratulating me on my lifetime dream.

I decided it is this:  My lifelong dream is to write a book. A good book. About all the crazy things I have learned from all the crazy people I know. It'll be funny. Really funny. And not censored like this blog. And I'm not talking like a book like everybody thinks they can write a book. Like a really legitimate and good book.

So when I write that legitimate, funny and good book send me a card that says "Congratulations on achieving your lifelong dream." And I'll send you a free copy of my book. Maybe.

What's your lifelong dream?

She's One!

Emi was finally healthy enough that we had her party a few Sundays ago. Only a week late! It was a lot of fun to celebrate. Here's the picture story:
